William J. Urquhart,.M.D.

 

William J. Urquhart,.M.D. has been in private practice in Mobile since 1982. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and while there was a member of several college honorary societies. He went on to obtain a degree in medicine from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1978. His four years of specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynecology was done at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Dr. Urquhart received his Board Certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1984. He is a Diplomat of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. In addition, he is a member of several state and local medical societies. He was elected Chief of Staff at Springhill Memorial Hospital in 1996. He has also been Chief of Gynecology at Doctors Hospital. His patient interests include infertility, family oriented obstetrics, outpatients treatment for menstrual bleeding, uterine fibroid surgery, and laser laparoscopy. He was voted, by his peers, into Best Doctors in American in 2005-2006 and again in 2007-2008. Dr. Urquhart was one of the first physicians to perform hysteroscopy and endometrial ablation procedures in the Mobile area, and is one of only two Mobile physicians accredited by the Accreditation Council for Gynecologic Endoscopy for advanced operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy. He received the Physicians Recognition Award from the American Medical Association in 1993, 1996, and again in 1999.

Dr. Urquhart has been married to the former Marietta Murray of Mobile since 1975. They have two daughters. He is a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoys golf, fishing and traveling.
